Redevelopment of a former Public House into contemporary homes.

A practical and pragmatic approach was required for ‘Kites Nest’ in Stroud. The scheme required the conversion of the existing Public House, into apartments, alongside the creation of seven new build, contemporary three bedroom houses, within the original grounds. Following an outline planning consent, BBA were appointed as ‘”Delivery Architects” for the project by Hyman Development, resulting in our development and design of the scheme.

While a contemporary approach was developed for the design of the new dwellings, the roof profile was designed as a nod to the previous industrial buildings in the area. Further design considerations included, arranging the floor plans, so that the top floor of each house gave an open plan dual-aspect living space, making use of the long distance views of the valley behind the site. We also used a timber frame structure atop a masonry basement on the site of the former pub kitchens, thus reducing site wastage and increasing the project’s sustainability.
